Is It A Sin?
1. Does "Jesus Crust" Mock Jesus Christ?
Galatians 6:7 NKJV: Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
The word "mock" is myktērizō in Greek.
The biblical meaning refers to laughing at something seen as worthless or repulsive.
Galatians 6:7 is speaking about sneering at God and His laws, expecting no punishment.
"Jesus Crust" encouarges others to live their life to please God and obey His will.
It shares scripture and devotions almost daily to help others in their walk with Christ.
"Jesus Crust" is NOT a way to make fun of or belittle Christ!
It's a creative way to teach people that Jesus Christ is the Bread of Life! (John 6:51)
Bun Fact: Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life, was born in Bethlehem which means "House of Bread". Isn't God so clever?
2. Is Jesus Crust Taking The Lord's Name In Vain/Blasphemy?
Exodus 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Taking God's name in vain/blasphemy is never okay but what does that mean exactly?
It's more than one thing so I'll list them out below
1. Serving Idols/other gods
Ezekiel 20:39 NKJV ...but profane My holy name no more with your gifts and your idols.
2. Taunting God
Luke 23:39 NKJV Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”
3. Claiming to be Godly and doing evil
Romans 2:23-24: You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,”...
4. Speaking against God with hatred
Psalm 139:20 ESV They speak against you with malicious intent; your enemies take your name in vain.
5. Using the Name of God to Curse
Leviticus 24:11 NKJV And the Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the name of the Lord and cursed...
6. Using God's Name In An Oath And Lying
Leviticus 19:12 ESV You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.
7. Calling The Holy Spirit demonic
Matthew 12:24,31 NKJV but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”—because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”.
Using the name "Jesus Crust" doesn't fall into any of those categories
"Jesus Crust" is referencing one of the titles that Christ professed of Himself...
That He is the Bread of Life!
The goal of "Jesus Crust" is to creatively point people back to that gospel truth!
Similarly, King Solomon uplifts God's Name by creatively comparing it to a strong tower
Proverbs 18:10 NKJV The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
3. Is It Idolatry?
Some may feel that our plushes could be idolatrous due to verses like the one below.
Exodus 20:4-5 NKJV: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them....
Yet God commands Moses to create a carved image...
Numbers 21:8-9 NKJV: Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole...
Jesus even compares Himself to the carved image that Moses created!
This was to foreshadow His death on the cross.
John 3:14-15 NKJV: And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
Did God tell Moses to sin? No! Of course not.
There's no contradiction. To understand context is needed.
In the ancient world idols and carved images were created as vessels for spirits to inhabit.
They thought their idols and carved images would be filled with some sort of spirit.
They bowed down and offered sacrifices to them hoping for blessings and guidance.
God is against any carved image created as a vessel for another spirit.
(Examples of Godly carved images: Exodus 25:18, 1 Kings 7:40-45, 1 Kings 10:18-20)
Specifically bowing down to, worshipping, and offering sacrifices to them.
That's why King Hezekiah later destroys the bronze snake.
The Israelites began worshipping other gods and turned the bronze snake into an idol.
What God used as a symbol to point to Christ man used as an idol to worship other gods.
Our plushes ARE NOT idols or carved images for other gods or spirits.
They should never have an altar set up for them, be bowed down to, or worshipped.
Much like the bronze snake "Jesus Crust" points to the saving ministry of Christ.
The Bread of Life is Jesus Christ's body that died on the cross, rising again in three days!
He offered His body out of love for you! If you believe that He promises you eternal life!
John 6:51 NKJV: I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
